Project Overview: A company starting up an English as a second language e-learning website were looking for a fresh unique design that would stand above their competition. They also had very specific technical requirements. We not only designed their web site but also handled all their marketing requirements such as banner ads, newspaper and magazine ads for Spanish and Chinese audiences. The Problem: The company had very specific technical requirements, including handling multiple non-Roman languages in both print and digital based media. The Solution: We worked closely with the client to provide them with their specific requirements. The End Result: A successful campaign that spanned languages and media. KCINC's Comments: "KCINC Enterprises Corp. was looking for a design for their new English as a second language website. We met with Ann-Marie Cheung of FG New Media who listened to our requirements and then presented a few excellent designs that reflected our discussions. After choosing one of the designs, FG New Media created the look and feel for our entire site in a timely and efficient manner. They especially took great pains to go the extra mile to deliver a product that was not only very professional but that met with our stringent technical requirements. We were really pleased with the final result!" Kathy Wainberg Director, KCINC Enterprises Corp. |

Project Overview: This project involved creating a Flash picture viewer which was to be used in creating a variety of golf tournament mementos. The design and concept were handled by Imagination Plus and Paula was hired to do the Flash and XML programming. The Problem: Imagination Plus needed the ability of creating essentially different picture viewers for each event the CD was being created for. They didn't want to have to edit any Flash code or make many internal changes to the file. The Solution: We decided to use XML as the source for the photo information. Imagination Plus created a little application that generated XML on the fly in the format that the Flash picture viewer needed. The XML contained information about all of the photos, the number of categories needed, sponsor logo's and the event information. The Flash file itself ended up being a template that contained only the basic unchanging interface and the code which parsed the XML. The End Result: The final application is now being used and reused as needed for golf tournaments and other events. It is not available on the internet, but instead is burned to CD and given out as mementos to event participants. Imagination Plus's Comments: "Paula assessed our project needs quickly and was able to turn around complete work in a short period of time... Thanks, Paula for great customer service and support" Michael Salvatori, Owner, Imagination Plus Inc |

Project Overview: Pretty City was looking for someone to lighten their load of graphic work on a freelance basis. The online magazine which is about beauty, leisure, and wellness required someone who understood their fun and feminine brand. The Problem: The work included designing dedicated emails, event invitations, online branding and retail listings. Everything needed a consistent look and feel while having unique looks for their various advertisers and also grabbing their customers' attention. The Solution: We worked closely with Pretty City to thoroughly comprehend their fun and feminine style and as a result executed the design work accordingly. The End Result: The client is very happy with the campaign overall and has continued to use Ann-Marie as their regular designer for online and offline work since 2006. Pretty City's Comments: "Ann-Marie Cheung not only consistently crafts visually appealing design work for PrettyCity.com but her reliability, attention to detail and promptness is unparalleled. FG New Media comes with our hearty recommendation!" Carolyn Brundage CEO, PrettyCity.com |

Project Overview: This project involved creating a Director based application that would run off of a CD. The client was Q30 Design Inc. and the end client was Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP. The Problem: Q30 Design needed the CD to display large amounts of video as well as a small number of text based articles. The Solution: We decided to use Director MX as the basis for this CD mainly because of the large amount of video involved. At that time, Flash was unable to handle these types of files effectively.Video was produced in house and provided in both MPG and QuickTime formats. This would allow users to select and view the video type that would work on their computers without having to take time to download any plugins. The main application was set up to detect which video type would work on the end user's machine, but was also designed to allow the user to switch video type if the alternative software was also present.Using Director provided some unique challenges but we were able to still provide the same features that were in the previous year's CD, namely text resizing and article printing. Users can also connect to the web for article and information updates as needed. The End Result: The final application was distributed in 2003 around the world to readers of NorthSouth and Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP. Clients. This CD won an award for Best Legal CD in 2003. Q30 Design Inc.'s Comments: "Your help on this project was above and beyond the call. We appreciate all that you have done. I am sure that we will be working together again in the very near future..." Peter Kirkpatrick Q30 Design |

Project Overview: This project involved creating a Flash based application that would run off of a CD. The client was Q30 Design Inc. and the end client was Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP. The Problem: Q30 Design needed the CD to read external files, have the ability to access the internet and also load up and print PDF files. The Solution: We decided to Flash as the software for developing primarily because of its flexibility in importing external data and its ability to smoothly animate vector graphics with a small footprint. We used 3 rd party software, SWF Studio from North Code to extend Flash's capabilities outside of the browser environment. All the articles shown in the CD were loaded up from external files allowing the Flash application to essentially become a very flexible template. SWF Studio was used to detect an internet connection and allow users to interact with the online portion of the data. One of the most notable features in this CD is the user's ability to resize the text larger or smaller as needed. This has made it easier for people to read any article on their computer rather than having to make numerous and wasteful printouts. The End Result: The final application was distributed in 2002 around the world to readers of NorthSouth and Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP. Clients. Feedback has been very positive and lead to the creation of a new version of this CD the following year. Q30 Design Inc.'s Comments: "This is great! Thanks for all your help. I am sure that we will be working together in the very near future." All the best. Peter Kirkpatrick Q30 Design |

Amnesty International "My Olympic Dream"

Project Overview: This was a Flash and PHP piece displayed on www.amnesty.ca When a person donates money to Amnesty's cause, they are sent to a page with a Flash application on it allowing them to "light" a candle and send their dream to the Chinese ambassador. The Problem: The Flash file had to send and receive data to and from the server. Data included things like names, message and donation info. We also had to make it look nice and run automatically when there was no user interaction. In addition, users had to be able to search for their candles, and send their candles and a message to friends. The Solution: Working with the server programmer at Amnesty International, we came up with an xml and FlashVars solution that effectively dealt with server side and client side communication. All animation was controlled through script and has been designed to handle thousands of entries. My part of the project was coordinated by Kendra Gadzala. The End Result: A beautiful and effective Flash piece that not only allows users to read each others' messages but also to send them directly to the Chinese Ambassador. Amnesty's Comments: "Thanks Paula! As always it's been great working with you." Kendra Gadzala Art Director |
